Rolla Akers

February 29, 2016 by misnatezac 1 Comment

I am trying to find information on my grandmother that was a full blooded Cherokee. Her name was Rolla Akers. She moved to Missouri after marrying my grandfather, Virgil Penberthy. I am guessing she was probably born anywhere from 1900-1910. She died when my father was young from severe asthma.

Rolla was born in Missouri about 1893. She married Virgil in 1916. She can be found living with her grandparents in the 1910 Census, and with her parents in 1900. They were not Cherokees. These family lines are fairly well-traced and they mostly go back to early White settlers that moved into MO around the 1830s-50s, coming from Virginia originally. Here are the names of her parents and grandparents. Most of these lines can be traced back further, to their immigrant progenitors. Hopefully, this will help you to start building a good tree for Rolla.
