The Pearl Walker listed as Roll Number 782 on the Cherokee Freedmen roll was associated with the Walker family enumerated on card number 296. She was 8 years old in 1901.
This family unit was headed by a Cherokee Freedmen descendant, Susan Walker. She was marred to a man named Charles Walker, who was in an Ohio penitentiary at the time of enumeration. Susan’s parents were Amos and Rachel Aldrich/Allred/Alrid (spelled various ways). Rachel was from Indian Territory (Cherokee Nation) and Amos was a Black “state man,” or a non-Cherokee citizen, from Freeport, Texas.
Rachel gave a summary of her life story here:
http://www.african-nativeamerican.com/rachel_ward.htm
Rachel’s parents came to Indian Territory via the Trail of Tears, and she posits her father was from Georgia originally. The slave master “Joe Beck” she refers to was Joseph Beck, son of Jeffrey Beck (Anglo) and Susannah Buffington (mixed-blood Cherokee). These families were from Georgia also, moved west during removal era.
These families had nothing to do with any Walker family members living in Marion County, TN.
Here is the general timeline:
Pearl Walker – b. 1983 in Cherokee Nation
Susan Walker – b. 1874 in Cherokee Nation
Rachel Eaton/Beck – b. 1847 in Flint District, Cherokee Nation
James Eaton/Beck – b. about 1827 probably in Georgia; came west via Trail of Tears
Lottie Beck – b. about same time as James, came west via Trail of Tears
As an FYI this Pearl Walker married a man named Vann and she lived in Oklahoma.

I think the Pearl Walker roll #782 card #296 is the correct Pearl Walker. Unless her father was Jeremiah Walker. The birth and death days match, and I know she was born in Alabama then lived in Marion County TN

If in fact your ancestor lived in Alabama and relocated to Marion county, TN and has connections with georgia as well….look into cole city in Dade county GA, Bryant in Jackson county, AL and either Nickajack or Shellmound in Marion County, TN. There is a marker near Nickajack cave in Marion county that shows where the three states meet. You can stand on this marker and be standing in three states at the same time! To have those three connections, this is the usual route.

My grandmother’s father was Jeremiah Walker. So what does that mean?

My grandmother’s name is Pearl Walker. She was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma. between 1907 – 1912. This is the only information that I have. Where do I begin my Cherokee genealogy search?
