Lucy Cherokee

November 8, 2014 by tomchiles 10 Comments

My ancestry points to my grandfather (many times back) as being Stephen Thomas Williams born abt 1775 in Wales and dying abt 1857 in MS. Many ancestry posts have him married to a Lucy Cherokee 1800-1850. This Lucy Cherokee is a mystery in searching her ancestry. Many posts have aliases names Lucy Linney, Lucy Williams, Lucy Ostern, Lucy Au Noo Yo Hee. My current thinking is that Lucy Cherokee is the grand daughter of Lucy Ward 1697-1758/60 who came over to America in 1730 and married Chief Ocosostota. She in turn, I believe, had a daughter (Lucy Cherokee’s mother) Lucy Ward II abt 1733-1777/1781. Her daughter, I believe, is the one called Lucy Cherokee, the Lucy Cherokee who married Stephen Thomas Williams. I believe Lucy Cherokee is really a Lucy Linney 1778-1848. I would like to get some confidence that my assumptions are correct or if you could help me determine who Lucy Cherokee was I would greatly appreciate it.

    Hi,
My cousin has this Lucy Ostern listed in her Ancestry tree as our shared 5th grandmother.
I’m researching this today. Has anyone found documentation showing Lucy, Stephen Williams and their children?

    Thank you,
    Terry Nunnery

I have a Stephen Williams married to Lucy ‘Ostern’ appearing as my 5th great-grandparents as well. I’m also trying to find more information about this family line as well as any distant family members! I don’t have any documentation aside from what is shown through my ancestry dna results, but I’m happy to share what I can. I can be reached via email at andamichelle@gmail.com.

I’m also looking for more information on her. Aside from the names you mentioned above I’ve also seen her listed as Lucy Black Fox. According to what I’ve found through Ancestry.com I’m a descended from her son Lemuel Thomas Williams. Feel free to reach out at steveosw@mac.com.
