Delillah Brown- Shipley

November 17, 2015 by mnelson 1 Comment

I heave heard through family that Delillah Brown (that spelling could be incorrect, I have seen it several ways) was living on a reservation. She was born in 1874, and was married to Alfred Shipley, who is said to have worked on the reservation in law enforcement of some kind. He is the relative of mine. She passed in 1963 in Lubbock, TX at the McMurray Convalescent Home. I am looking for any information I can find on her.

Delilah Brown was born in Arkansas, in 1872. Her parents were Samuel Scott Brown, born in Kentucky in 1852; and Jane LNU (some unsourced trees give maiden name as Taliaferro), born in Arkansas about 1851. This couple shows up in Marion Arkansas in 1880. They then moved to Texas by 1882, and soon thereafter, Oklahoma. They came into the territory only as White settlers. They were not Native Americans.
