Searching for info on Elmer Fred Johnson Cloud born Spenser, Kansas September 9 1905.

May have had sisters and a brother named Fred.

Possible father’s true name Dan.

Mother’s name Mae or Mary.

Possible true birth place Tecumseh, KN October 9 1906 or 07.

My family kept their native roots a secret until my grandfather had passed and my father had little time left on this earth.  I was raised by stepfather, learned of my heritage right before passing, so finding anything is proving difficult.

My grandfather Elmer Cloud  changed his name to Johnson sometimes in the 1920’s.  My grandfather speaks of a relative living in his home called Eulliah. (spelling?)   Could be a grandmother.

My father’s name was Francis Frederick Johnson (Cloud).

Heard stories of the family migrating from Illinois via wagon to Kansas.  Someone once had pictures of Grandmother in full native dress sitting on the wagon.  Alas, they have not survivied.

So confusing I understand.  Records are sparse if any.  Hiding who you are presents many challenges to those of us who seek.

 

Any information you can provide is sincerely appreciated.  If there is a better way to present my info to help the search, Id appreciate learning about that as well.  Or any other websites where I can do some looking myself.  I’m not the first, nor the last, to feel thwarted in trying to find records of Native people.
