Williams, Hardin, Moytoy, Hoskins

November 3, 2015 by jrachford 18 Comments

Seeking information on my family.

7th Great Grandparents:

Mary Running Water Hoskins, b.1786 TN d.1825 Volga, Floyd County, KY (buried in Old Indian Cemetery on Mt. Misery). Eastern Cherokee. WHO WERE HER PARENTS???

She married:

Robert Sanborn Williams, b. 1788 NC d. 1851 Red Bush, Johnson County, KY. His wife, his mother, and his paternal grandmother were all Native American. Cherokee and Shawnee.

8th great Grandparents:

“Ann” Running Fawn, b. January 1754 d. 1840 Volga, Floyd, KY (Buried in Old Indian Cemetery on Mt. Misery.) There are a LOT of conflicting stories that name her “Floating Cloud, instead of “Running Fawn.” I believe that her mother in law was actually Floating Cloud, however. I believe that Running Fawn was from the Great Lakes Region, but I have literally no idea who she was, who her people were, or who her parents were.

She married:

Buckspike “Phillip” Williams b. 10 February 1753 SC d. 12 September 1848 Volga, Floyd, KY (Buried in Old Indian Cemetery.) His wife, aunt, and mother were all Native Americans.

9th Great Grandparents:

Floating Cloud “Frenchie” Hardin b.15 July 1728 TN d. 16 Nov 1785 Sullivan Co, NC. Allegedly, her parents were a French Fur Trader and the third daughter of Cherokee Chief Amahetai Pidgeon of Tellico MoyToy II (her name I cannot find…)

James Williams Sr. b. 1730 Charleston, SC d.7 Oct 1780 Hawkins, TN. (Allegedly, his paternal Uncle, Timothy, from England, married “Elizabeth” MoyToy, his wife’s paternal aunt…)

Any help or clarification is greatly appreciated, even if it contradicts my info! Thank you so much, in advance.

James Williams 1st was married to Ann Floating Cloud. A great reference book is from “No more muffled hoofbeats by Estelle Smith Rizk”.
“Printers Devil” by Sam Williams. is another book where the Williams are mentioned.

Wish they had correct for our comments. Ann Floating Cloud was also known as Kiziah. Not Kiziah Vest..
Kiziah Vest was married to a German, Philip Williams. Our Philip was from Welsh.

    Aloha Cousins!

I belong to this same line of Williams. According to what my Great Grandmother compiled my ancestry is as follows:

James Williams from Wells- Ship Builder

James Wilson born May 1763 (he may be a grandfather through 2 lines. I have yet to decipher some of what
    she wrote.)
    Col John Wilson Williams

    James a Williams

    Charles Williams

Mattie Williams Swan Johnson- my great grandmother

William Webster Swan II- my grandfather

Great Grandmother Mattie did not add names of any wives! That is what brought me here. Searching for the names of grandmothers. If anyone has any info they would share; names, birthdates, family histories/stories etc.. It would be very much appreciated. I did not know my father until I was 17 and never had the chance to meet grandparents, and great grandparents, so I missed out on this.
    Thank You

I’m a 6th-great-grandson of Philip “Buck Spike” Williams’ younger brother Hardin Williams, son of James Williams and husband to Jane Hart Williams, I am descended through their daughter Keziah Williams Martin and Urias Pleasant Martin who are buried in Texas. What proof is there? What Cherokee documentation do any of you have? – J Purkaple

This Hardin Cherokee connection sounds eerily similar: https://www.allthingscherokee.com/queries/rebekah-great-granddaughter-talaquah-nc-ms/

Somewhat related, Phillip (Buckspike) Williams is my 6th great uncle so Keziah Elizabeth Brooks (b. 1728) is my 6th GGrandmother (Princess floating cloud). I see a lot of places indicate she is half French and half Cherokee. Has anyone found any proof of her heritage?

Pardon my intrusion, but have any of you Williams came across a Welshman named Timothy Williams whom married an indigenous native female named Elizabeth (Betsy) Williams (born Moytoy) I keep turning up the name Moytoy is fictious, but her fathers name was Kanagatoga Moytoy nd her mother was
Su gi of Tellico? I’ve searched and searched and continue coming up with conflicting information.
    I’m Buddy Williams in Tennessee..

Please be careful about Kizah Brooks being 1/2 French. I saw where it was posted that he was white.
My DNA shows I am 1% African. I know there were black french men. Being only 1% it could easily be he was black
