I’ve heard all my life that there is Cherokee in my ancestry. My first cousins and distant cousins have heard the same thing. None of us has been able to confirm this. My uncle’s story is that our Cherokee relative was a farmhand for someone and at one point took on this person’s name. The name this person supposedly took was the surname “Mason”. In my research, the name “Mason” begins with a Thomas Jefferson Mason, who would be my 2nd great grandfather. This is his information: Thomas Jefferson Mason was born on May 30, 1854, in Virginia. He married Arizona Roxanna Allen in 1879. He died on January 12, 1915, in Myers, Missouri, at the age of 60. Their son, Earl Oscar Mason, was born in West Virginia on May around 1880. Earl O. Mason moved to Missouri where he married Etta M. Johnson.
Any information anybody may have would be very appreciated. Thank you!

Hi Jarrod,
Nice to meet you. Thanks for your comment.
Both of my maternal grandparents were from Iowa. Earl O. Mason, Jr. was my grandfather (from Iowa), and his father was Earl O. Mason, Sr..
Earl Mason Sr. is the son of Thomas Jackson Mason, which is the person who seems to connect us.
Do you have any information about us having Cherokee/Native American ancestors? If it’s true, I know the percentage for my cousins and me is very, very low, but I love a mystery and this is one that’s followed me all my life.
Again, thanks for getting in touch! I look forward to learning any information you might be able to add to Mason clan.
