Raincrow/Dotson

July 14, 2021 by Misty Phillips 2 Comments

Trying to find more information on my cherokee heritage. My great great great grandmother was Mary “Polly” Ann Reno Raincrow Dotson born in TN to Chief Joseph Raincrow on April 27th 1813 She was full blood cherokee and the wife of Dock Floyd Dotson Sr who i’m told was also full blood cherokee. They resided in Wharton creek, Madison county Arkansas. Her sister is Celia (Ciley) (Raincrow) Dotson. She died on Sept 8th, 1874 in Indian territory and is buried somewhere in Oklahoma I believe. They were from the wolf clan. I believe Ciley to have been a member of the Eastern Cherokee Nation. Unfortunately I can not find any birth records because I do not believe they had any. Any advice or suggestions?

How ironic! Mary Ann Raincrow is my great great great great great grandmother. And I too am searching for birth or death certificates in order to apply for citizenship with the Cherokee Nation.
