Marriage between Self and Moytoy

February 23, 2015 by genealgurl 2 Comments

Is there a document or record proving the marriage between William Presley Self (1732-1812) and Catharine Ghi-Go-Ne-Li Rising Fawn Moytoy (1730-1800)? (Any other proof of her relationship to her tribe would be wonderful) Rising Fawn was also allegedly married to Ghi Go Ne Li Bushyhead.

William Presley Self to Catherine Rising Fawn Moytoy. Are my 4th great-grandparents also. My ancestors were mostly from Virginia. The Self line married into the Shifflett, Lamb and Samuels. Most lived and are buried in what is now the Upper Pocacan Mt in the Shenandoah National Park. Melisssa Lamb married my g-grandfather Mesheck Samuels. They are buried in the Park. There was a picture at one time maybe 50 years ago that showed Melissa the gg-granddaughter of Catherine Riding Fawn Moytoy Self in a war bonnet passed down to her. The picture has been lost. I do have a picture of Melissa and she looks very much Indian. He mother was Catherine Shifflett named after Catherine Rising Fawn Self. Would appreciate any information on this Moytoy/ Self line especially in Virginia.
