Hello,
I am researching my ancestry for my master’s thesis. I have done Ancestry DNA and seemed to have found Cherokee relatives on my father’s maternal side. My great (x4) grandfather was named Jacob “Jake” Jones (1829-1882) who was the son of Robert Jackson ‘Dan Ein Meh’ Jones (~1776-1854)and the son of Jinney ‘Oo Chel Lah’ Jones (or maiden name Elizabeth Susan Johnson)(~1777-1859). Jinney’s parents are listed as Jacob ‘Tribal Elder’ Johnson and Margaret ‘Oo Chelan’ Pack. Robert Jackson Jones’ parents are listed as James ‘Waya Adahy’ Jones and Mary Ann ‘Oo Laa No Te’ Jones (Sloane was maiden name). Lastly, James Jones has his parents listed as David ‘Suagha’ James Jones and OO Sikwaii Chepi. Most of the people listed here are from North Carolina (Natanhala, Hiawassee, Cherokee), Eastern Tennessee and Georgia . I have found little information on any actual proof of their Cherokee blood but am still trying to research various rolls. Any information on any of the people mentioned above would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
Jinney OO Chel OO Chel Lah or Elizabeth Susan Johnson is the 3rd great-grandmother of my mother.. My mother’s grandmother was Nora Jones from Sweetwater, Tennessee. I would be very interested in any information you have for Jinney OO Chel OO Chel Lah or Elizabeth Susan Johnson. My name is Laurel Janeway Streetman. My email is lstreetman57@yahoo.com. THANK YOU!!!!
