James May Licensed Cherokee Trader

April 16, 2015 by ashbaby12 2 Comments

Looking for information about James May licensed trader with the Cherokees. He was in Cowee Town, and had a horse ranch. I am trying to find out who his descendants were to see if that is how my May family came from Cherokees.

There are 6 May names on the Dawes Roll. None of them James. Sometimes white men were adopted into the tribe and there was no Cherokee by Blood in them. They are on the rolls though.

James May would have died in the 1700’s. Could you tell me the 6 names on the Dawes? I am looking for Henry May and his wife Sookie.
