Grey variations

Have heard that Grey surname my have been from Greyfeather, or Grayfeather. When looking at rolls and census, many names are not in English. I would love some help with finding Cherokee translations and links for this name. Eastern tribe…

    There are 2 books that are invaluable in the search for your Cherokee roots. They are Cherokee Roots Vol 1 (Eastern) and Vol 2 (Western). They have all the rolls. That said here is what I found in them for you.

    I found no Greyfeather only Greybeard and Graybeard. Could be yours. I will list them in order of how far back they go and which roll I found them on. Some are on several rolls and have different numbers because they did not bother to keep the records straight in the beginning of rounding up the Indians and taking their names.

    That is all the variations of GREY GRAY that are on the Cherokee Rolls from any year East or West. Hope you find them. Go to http://www.cherokee.org for the forms to fill out to get on the rolls. It takes a year once you send the paper work in. You have to send in birth or death certificates that have the raised seal from the state back to the ancestor on the roll. You just have to get back to the closest one, not all the way back to the beginning.
