This is my fifth great grandmother on my mother’s fathers side. I am looking for information on her as well as my dads mother who passed when I was younger. I was told you is full Cherokee. Looking at pictures I agree but I can find nothing on her.
I would love information on both. I just want to know my heritage.

She is my 5th great grandmother as well. She’s sort of my roadblock in genealogy. Fascinated by searching for more info though!

She is my 6th great-grandmother as well. I descend from her daughter Fanny Black (McCord) is her married name.
I’m really interested in learning more about her Cherokee ancestry as well. So far I haven’t been able to find out anything more. She had another daughter named Esther Gantanaga Black Thompson. I have seen her family line. Esther had a daughter named Esther Eliza Thompson Sawyer. Esther Eliza Thompson Sawyer’s daughter was Rutha Melvina “Ruth” Sawyers Chambers. Rutha/Ruth applied for membership in the Cherokee nation along with several other family members. Unfortunately, they were denied for not enough documentation. Apparently, the story is that to avoid the authorities, and forced removal, Esther Thompson Black told them she was “Black Dutch” to account for her dark complexion. Therefore, she wasn’t officially listed on the Dawes Rolls. If you Google Esther Thompson Black, the website Geni.com has the information as well as all the relatives accounts of testimony of their applications to the Cherokee nation.you can read. Find a Grave website has a picture of Rutha and her daughters. Looking at their pictures, I feel like I can see a Native American resemblance in them. Let me know what you think. I hope someone will see our posts and know more. Maybe be able to help us more.
