My great grandmother Elizabeth A. Cotton…not her Indian tribal name…it was changed. No one knows where my GG came from. I am so heart broken. She is Cherokee…I have a picture. My GG Father rescued her from slavery when she was 17 and paid $17.00 for her. She was born 1888..some think Mississippi but no proof. She married my GG Father on 4/5/1905 in Black Oak, Arkansa, his name is Joseph Perkins Brooks born 8/4/1860 and passed 8/7/1930. They were both killed…both of my grandparents. I read on a message board on this website but I cannot find it…how a indian girl was taken from her parents and given to a preacher named Cotton in Arkansas. I am wondering if this was my GG grandmother they are looking for. My name is Carrie Ann…I am just learning about my cherokee heritage…this is a heart breaking thing for me to swallow…knowing that your loved one was sold for $17.00. I have a family member that I just met that never knew I even existed that saw the bill of sale receipt on my GG mother. No ones even knows her real name….I would like to bring some kind of closure to this family mystery. If anyone has any information, please email me at peacockann@protonmail.com. Thank you, Carrie Ann

Hello, have you been able to find out any more information on Elizabeth? I believe she is also my great grandmother.
