Cherokee Roots

September 5, 2016 by monty 1 Comment

I am searching for information on my fathers side of the family. Everyone is passed, but the information was not. Here is what I have:

My great grandfather was Joseph Holloway. He met my great grandmother, Ella We-Hunt Holloway in Pawnee, Oklahoma in the late 1800’s.

My fathers mother was Lela Childress Holloway from Pawnee.

Just an FYI, the surname is not We-Hunt witha hyphen as if it were some kind of Anglicized Native American name, pertaining to the verb to hunt and a pronoun “we.” It is Wehunt, from German origin.

It goes back to a Frederick Wehunt born in Germany in 1759. The original spelling was Wigand.
