Cherokee Connection

April 26, 2016 by elizac Leave a Comment

I am looking for any information on matrilineal line of Eliza “Lizzie” Combs nee Fugate b 1889 d 1845 shot by her son accidentally, my great grandmother who’s mother was Lucinda “Cindy” Fugate nee Combs b 1860 d 1904 for whom there is a picture and her mother who Nancy Combs nee Smith c. 1835 d unknown. I was always told my great grandmother was Cherokee 3/4. All in Perry County Troublesome Creek KY.

I have also traced lineage to Jesse Brock possible connection to Chief Redbird but have read varying versions of why this may not be an accurate lineage. This is through my grandfather William Golden Combs father’s Logan Combs (husband of Eliza “Lizzie” Combs) mother’s line Nancy Combs nee Shepherd b. 1852 her mother Malinda Shepherd nee Roark. I am interested in information on this lineage as well.

I remember seeing notes in my father’s research of census records indicating simply “Indian Bride” but have not found that in research through geni and I don’t remember which ancestors that was related to.

Very much appreciate any help in research to Combs in Perry County connection to Cherokee or other tribes as I have come across interesting stories and would like to know more. Thank You!
