I am a member of the First Families of the Cherokee Nation, but not a Citizen. 3rd great grandfather lived in Cherokee County NC. My grandmother was born in Tahlequah OK and her mother moved here from NC. They are neither one on the Dawes Roll….I don’t know what happened but I am very disappointed that this keeps me from being a Cherokee Citizen. I feel my heritage very strongly and would like to do things to serve and help my people, but feel like an outsider. I guess I don’t understand that eventhough my ancestry has been traced and proven that I am unable to be a Citizen due to nothing I had control over!
