I am researching our family history and need help determining how to find more information on Avis Willis. Family oral history claims Avis was 1/2 Cherokee and several hints I have found online suggest this as well. Avis was born about 1824 in Tennessee and died about 1893 in Texas. Her parents were James and Mary Willis. She was married to Josiah Lambert. I have seen some mention of the Lambert family having Indian heritage but I have no real information. I’m not a fan of the pay for use sites and do research the hard way. So if anyone has any history on these two family members I would greatly appreciate the help.
