Am I Cherokee?

February 28, 2017 by msmooret Leave a Comment

I have been told that a family member that lived in OHIO back in the day was supposed to have been full blood Cherokee. How can I tell this only from a name? I do not have any old pictures nor do I have the funds to have a DNA of blood test. This was on my Fathers side a few lines back. Her name was Goldie from the records I have found and been told of.
Goldie I (Janes) More or Moore
born on the 18th of November 1897
in Holgate, Henry, Ohio, United States

I was told this through family member but when I see American paperwork (Census records) it does not state anything but race as either WHITE or BLACK so I can not determine if that was the case.
I also has a lot of other family members (JOHN LAPHAM) during the early English invasion years and I do not know how to research that. either.
