May 28, 2015 by alexmatheson 1 Comment

Jacob Michael King born Choctaw Co. al 1850’s died Madison co. MS 1930’s married Martha Powell born Tuscaloosa co. Al died Madison Co. MS 1930’s. Jacob’s father Benjamin Hampton King (killed Civil War). Martha Powell’s father John Powell. According to 1880-1930 Censuses, B. H. King born in GA or SC, John Powell born in TN or NC. Family stories of Native American. Also, known descendants have high cheekbones -I understand that to be a Cherokee trait?

An individual contacted me via familysearch & did an Y-DNA test on King line, as a result of that discovered Benjamin Hampton King’s parents are Michael King (born 1807 in NC) & wife Elizabeth (born 1808 in SC or NC).

Michael King is listed on the 1853 Mississippi state census in Lauderdale Co. MS. (Benjamin Hampton King is also there). Elizabeth is listed as a widow on the 1880 Census in Scott Co. MS (parents are listed as born in North Carolina).
