Hello. Im doing my familys genealogy and have come to a halt with my Grandmother. I know my Great Grandfathers name, but on his marriage certificate for according to other family members they wrote her name as “Cherokee Woman Ruth” I cant really afford Ancestory.com but i would really like finding out some more information
My maternal grandmother (Tilly Acree or Starr) is thought to be 50% Cherokee. I was checking to see if she was on the tribal roles.
According to family stories this is apparently the ggg-grandmother who is supposedly full-blood Cherokee. Other sites have tried to tell me she was German, but my aunt has a picture of her (waiting for her to dig it out of storage) and she and my mother both insist she was full-blood Cherokee.
