I am seeking info on my grandfather, his name is Sam Haynes, from Kentucky. My father was Paul Leroy Haynes, born in 1924 in Kentucky. My grandfather is a cherokee. My father married my mother in 1949 Virginia from Kentucky. We were never allowed to have much to do with his side as young children. I am looking for my relatives. Any info would be appreciated!

Sam’s father was Tom Haynes, Mother was Nancy Rudley. Listed as white. He was born March 1881. Various sources lists year as 1887. Before marrying Sallie Melton, he was married to 2 others. He and Sallie’Sally Melton were married June 3, 1921 Calloway Co Ky.

Tom, thank you for your feed-back. I did find out my Father’s name is Sam S Haynes and that he married my Grandmother and he was 40 and she was 19 when they had my Father Paul Leroy Haynes in 1924
My Father was born in Benton, Kentucky. I’m having a road block on finding my grandfather’s info. I did hear my father was the only child and that my grandfather was murdered after he was in a feud and was mad and blew up a barge on the Tennessee river, not knowing school kids were on it. Now, I’m at a dead end and I was told my grandfather’s father was a Indian Chief. I am trying to find that heritage that I never knew and to learn more about them. Any leads you can throw my way?
