How to get started on my search

November 3, 2015 by robynabney 1 Comment

I have an ancestor, Elizabeth born about 1798. All family records show her as being born in Guntersville, AL. Guntersville did not exist in 1798, but was known as CreekPath at that time. I have never had a surname for her. I believe this might be the Cherokee ancestor that the family has always heard about.

How would I go about possible searching for her? She married in 1817 to my g-g-g-g-g-grandfather. they remained in Guntersville area til their deaths in the 1860’s. Any suggestions?

I don’t know if this is of help, my go grandmother’s name was Louella Elizabeth Cooper, she was born in Robertsdale, Alabama around 1880. I have been told she was of Cherokee decent. I have not been able to find proof. I saw one of your surnames was Cooper. Louella married a Conway and she stayed in the Robertsdale area until she passed in the 1920s.
Hope we can both find some answers.
