Description

This photo was taken atop Clingman’s Dome in the Great Smoky Mountains. It is the highest peak in Tennessee and the highest point along the Appalachian Trail. To the Cherokee it is known as Kuwahi or Mulberry Place and has long been considered sacred. During the forced removal, this mountain served as refuge for Cherokee seeking to escape the forced march west.
