It is my understanding that the name Whitted is a spinoff of Whitehead. Whitehead is allegedly apart of an Indian tribe. David Samuel Whitted claimed to be a descendant of the tribe. Can anyone give me some more information?

Hi, I’m looking to get more information on my great grandmother. Her name was Gertrude Elizabeth Helton (born 8/29, 1887 in Elsinore Missouri). She maried Henry Levi Ellington, born 2/5 in Leeper (Missouri).They had 18 children, raised in Mill Springs Missouri. Some of them then moved to Arkansas. Apparently Gertrude was Cherokee, but I can’t
