Ruth “Bettie” Elizabeth Clemons née Clark?

May 4, 2020 by ethrlchld13 3 Comments

The book Warrior Mountain mentions my great-great aunt Cordelia Riddle née Gray as being full blooded Cherokee, but really she was 1/4 Cherokee. Her grandmother was full blooded Cherokee. It’s a dead end or open ended problem. I can’t find anything definitive. I’d really appreciate any possible help.

The Choctaw Cordelia Gray mentioned above is not our Aunt Cordelia. According to the National Archive, the Choctaw Cordelia Gray died at one year of age and had a middle name of Amelia. Aunt Cordelia’s middle initial was “F” according to the records that I was given by my cousin, Rick Gray.
