Mary Keziah Tuttle/Joseph Tuttle

February 8, 2025 by dbaker 1 Comment

Information for Mary Tuttle descendants. I am also a 5th great-granddaughter of Mary Tuttle through Rhoda Pennington on both my grandfather (Arvil Baker) and my grandmother (Allie Robinson Baker). I am also a Shawnee descendent through my grandmother. Both the Tuttle and Pennigton line run through the Bumbalough/Bumbalough line of my grandmother and may lend some credence to them actually being Shawnee. We still own the farm that was once a village and hunting ground, passed down through the Bumbalough line. It is in Tennessee. My father is 92 and recalls that as a child they were always finding arrowheads and other artifacts every time they plowed the ground. He also recalls relatives in the area that were definitely Native American. He always assumed that it was Cherokee. I have researched Chief Joseph Tuttle several times and the conflicting information makes me pause and question if they were Cherokee. I am positive of the Shawnee connection at this point though.

Hi, my name is Kathleen and Jacob David Pennington and his wife Mary Keziah Tuttle are my 5th great grandparents, on my mother’s side of the family. I know nothing about Chief Joseph Tuttle and his wife Poker Hunter. I would like to learn more about them. My e-mail is scusse2@hotmail.com.
Thank you for any information. Kathleen
