Is it possible to have Cherokee but not have family on the rolls? If so, how do I prove I am Cherokee? Thanks

It is very possible to have Cherokee blood and find NO ONE listed on any of the rolls. Many of the Cherokee hid from government officials during removal time.

Citizenship in the three Cherokee bands requires direct lineal descent from proven Cherokee ancestors. To be eligible, these are the base rolls on which you’d have to find ancestors. There are no exceptions to this. However, you may want to keep researching, and building a tree that sheds light on ancestral ties and connections. Perhaps you could include a query with more information pertaining to whom you are searching for, such as birth and death years, spouse/s, children, siblings, parents, etc.
