Query: I am looking for any information about my family. Specifically my Great Grandmothers. From Copan, Oklahoma. My Grandparents were Pearl COKE (Cocke), 1911, and Robert E. ANDERSON, 1909. Both born in Arkansas. Pearl's parents were Jacob COKE, 1889, and Minnie MATTINGLY, 1871. Robert's parents were Clinton E. ANDERSON, 1877, and Sarah LUCAS, 1882. (However within ten years - between two censuses - he remarried a Rhonda, I assume Sarah passed away). There is a Sarah Lucas, maiden name of Stills on the Dawes Roll, but I do not think they are the same. She had children with the surname of Silcox (Silcotts). I can not find any ancestry on the two great grandmothers. They are Cherokee, the Lucas lineage is said to go back to Texas. The Cokes go back to North Carolina and surrounding areas (Leverette, Terrell, Slaughter, and Spains are some names) All my aunts and uncles were born on the reservation in OK and my father born in Illinois. Someone may have known them that's on here now. I do not have great details, but grew up being told that on one side (never which) my great grandmother and her mother survived the Trail of Tears, and that my Grandparents were bitter about the railroad coming through their land, and they didn't get anything for it because they left too soon. (I've read the history, and the years don't make much sense to me, but maybe the great-grandparents). I have found my great grandparents names only by ordering copies of my grandparents death certificates. When I asked as a child, I never would get an answer. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. I have three years of research in now, and I'm currently searching rolls page by page. Good luck to everyone else on here. And remember, that peice of paper will never tell different than what you what you already know in your heart. Thanks to the AllThingsCherokee Site for showing me that three years ago!

Query: My name is Nicki Fincher. My mother was adopted at six weeks old and we were told her mother was from a reservation and full blooded Cherokee. Adoption records are sealed and my adopted grandmother has died taking the truth with her, so we really don't have much to go by. My mom name is Pricilla Strickland born July 6, 1960 in Murfreesboro, TN according to her birth certificate. I was just wondering if you knew of any websites or any headquarters I could call to see if there is some kind of reunion or lost and found (I don't know how to word it!) to see if maybe she is looking for my mom too. Rumor has it she was 16 or so when she had my mom so that would now make her about 64 yrs old or so. Any help you could give me would be SO appreciated!

Query: My husband's grandfather was full blood Cherokee, but we do not know what the surname is. The family history is that his grandfather's family was from a tribe in possibly Tenn., and they were on the Trail of Tears when they acquired the last name Talley from a farmer that took them in. We would like to trace the history and all we have to go on is his grandfather's name U.V. Talley. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Query: I am searching for information about Amanda Ware. She was born January, 1861. I was told that one of her parents was full Native American and was a part of the Trail of Tears walkers. This is odd, because census records have reflect Amanda and both parents being born in Arkansas. Amanda Ware married John Cherry Kitchens. He died in November, 1899 leaving his widow with 5 children. Both Amanda Ware and John Kitchens are buried in South Fork Cemetery in Clark County, Arkansas.

Query: Researching for a friend - John Thomas McCracken was son of Alfred McCracken and Lucy Marie Howe who was part indian. Lucy and Alfred were married 3/19/1839 in Orange Co, IA. She was the daughter of Nathan Howe and Desire Starks. The couple moved to Cedar Co, IA in 6/8/1842. Lucy Howe came to Cedar County IA in 1841 with her parents. They settled on a farm southwest of Tipton. Lucy was born 11/22/1821 in IN and died in Tipton on 12/27/1908. At the time of her death she had 2 sisters still living - Sarah Baker and Mary Wilson. Query: My great, great-grandfather was Wiley W. Glover, born 1865. He was married to Sarah - sometimes referred to as Ella. One of their children was Pearl (my great-grandmother Gantt). Her child was Bernice Polly Gantt Harris (my grand-mother - her siblings: Audine and J.W. Gantt). According to my grandmother, Grand-daddy Glover was Cherokee. I am trying to research my ancestry, but my grandmother and mother passed away not too long ago, so my family resources are more than limited. My mother told me before she died that we have relatives in Oklahoma. However, I am uncertain of names. According to Census records, Wiley W. Glover was born in GA - but my grand-mother stated that at some time he lived in Alabama and Arkansas (this would have been between 1865 and 1880). His mother, Agness, was widowed sometime between 1865 and 1880. I believe Wiley's father was named Wiley as well - however, I am not 100% certain of that fact. This may be a long shot, but I am looking for any information that would connect ancestry. Is there anyone who might know the above Glovers, Gantts or Harris' of the Atlanta/Alpharetta/Big Creek-Forsyth Co./Smyrna-Cobb Co. Georgia area?

Query: My grandmother was Mary Barnett (Holmes or Franklin after marriage). She has brothers Lumley, Cecil, Sose, not sure of spelling. I found them on the census, and even later after she was residing with my mother and father, but I can't get a direct link as they had different last names, where do I start?

Query: I am looking for any information linking Erie Click (maiden name suspected to be Hughes; b. 1884) to Cherokee ancestry. I have searched all the federal census records and cannot find any trace of an Erie F. Hughes or her parents. I believe she was part Cherokee.

Query: This is my story and please don’t delete it without reading it. We may be related. All my life I have been told by all my family our gggrandmother was full blood Cherokee, but after many years of research I could not find her “Pain/Payne” family with Cherokee connections. One day about 3 years ago I was talking to my uncle and asked him why I can’t find the connection. He said I never would because he was told by his grandmother the daughter of Tempe Pain/Payne that she was sold to Mr. Pain/Payne when she was a little girl. His story was that a man brought her and 2 other little Cherokee girls by the Pain/Payne farm in Buncombe County one day between 1815 and 1820 and Mr. Pain/Payne bought her because she was the biggest and strongest of the three. She assumed the Pain/Payne name and in about 1834 she married Aaron Pinkney Freeman. Has anyone heard of such a story before? Would there be any way to find her real family? Any help would be greatly appreicated.
