Query: I know my aunt Carol Rioux who's maiden name is Souliere, told me that a great, great, great grandmother of ours was "Cherokee" Indian! This is very exciting for me to learn, could you tell me anything by using the last name "Souliere" my maiden name and my real grandfathers name? I only have been told my grandfather was a drifter, didn't know much about him. Anyhow his son (my dad's name) is Ronald Souliere and the other son's name is Edward Souliere both born in Holyoke, MA 01040. Four siblings all together, my real mother Barbara, her sister Carol, and also the two brothers I mention earlier. My grandmother's maiden name was Barbacki, from Poland, but lived most of her adult life in Holyoke, MA.

Query: I am almost certainly a GGGG grandson of Chief James Vann. My grandfather, Jesse Thomas Vann, was a son of Jesse Greenberry Vann. Both are buried in Antioch Baptist cemetery, 2 miles South of Apison, Tennessee, where the lived out their lives. I have found my great grandfather, Jesse G, on the Bradley County census of 1870. He was 18 then and married a woman 10 years older than himself, a widow with 4 children, one of which she brought to the marriage. My great grandfather named his first born son "James D." It is on that account that I strongly suspect my great grandfather was a son of James Denton Vann and Rosannah (Keithcart) Vann of Spring Place in Murray countuy, Georgia. They appear there on the census of 1850 and 1860. My great grandfather was born in 1852 and would have been about 8 on the 1860 census; while he is not enumerated among the children, he might have been visiting relatives, especially if the census had been taken in summer when school was not in session. Maybe his parents were busy or preoccupied when the Census taker stopped by. James Denton's father was John Vann, whose father was town chief James Vann. The missing bit of evidence is proof of Jesse G's parents. Spring Place is 31 miles SW of Apison. It has proven an illusive bit of information. Tennessee issued no death certificate on Jesse G. I would be grateful for any help, ecstatic over an acceptable categolry of proof. Thanks, Cal

Sadly, I have very limited resources, but any help finding out more about my Grandfather, George Null, would be greatly appreciated. I don't know when he was born, only that he is at least half Cherokee. I would contact him, as he is still alive, but so far no search results have matched.

Query: My great grandfather was Jesse Greenberry Vann Jne 1852/Oct 1907. He lived in Apison TN throughout his qadult life. I believe he was the son of James Denton Vann, on the Murray county Ga census as living at or near Spring Place. He and his family are on the Murray Co Census of 1860 and 1870. My grandfather in not listed among them on the 1870 census, but there is room for him in the birth order/dates. At 18 my great grandfather married a widow of 28 with 4 children. He named his first born sone James D, likely after his father. I need to pin that relationship down, to affirm I am the GGGG grandson of Chief James Vann. Thanks in advance for any help. Query: I have been searching for information about my great grandmother, Sarah Matilda Houlcum-Holcome---Holcomb. She was born abt 1845, married Charles Clay Hughart in 1861, in MO died abt. 1875 either MO or IL. I have been told that she was a full blooded Cherokee Indian, but the only proof I have, is I found their oldest son James Henry Hughart and his family on the 1900 Dawes Roll. It states he was half Cherokee. I know his father was from Ireland, so it would have to be his mother. If any one has any information about Sarah or her family, I would very much appreciate hearing from you.

Query: My great great grandmother was full blooded cherokee. Her name was Katie Birdsong. She was born deaf and dumb. When she was young, she was raped by a white settler (my great great grandfather)who was described only as a man with a limp. When she gave birth, she named the little girl Virginia Birdsong. Virginia later married a white settler with the last name of Forester. They went on to have 13 children one whom died at birth. My grandmother Betty was the youngest girl and married Earl Wayne Warnhoff Sr. They had 4 children together two girls and two boys. My mother Linda then married my father Andrew Charles Shore Sr. and they had 2 children me and my brother. I was wondering if anyone knew the name of Katie's mother. If it wasn't for her, then my great grandmother probably would have died because her mother couldn't take care of her. Thanks

Query: First of all, thanks in advance! I have been told that my grandfather's side has Cherokee Indian in the blood. All I have been able to dig up is this: Thomas J Wilson (1848-1913) born in Indiana, married a Amanda Bicknell (1863-1888). She died in Indiana. One of their children, Ella Rae Wilson(1882-1946) was my Great-Great Grandmother. She married Orsenith Enochs in Greene Co. Indiana. My grandfather has always said he is part Indian, but I cannot find anything on either one of these people concerning who Amanda's parents are. I only also know of the one child. Any help would be so greatly appreciated!!!

Viola married Lemuel E. Fraser, they lived in Henryetta, Dustin, Salem, and surrounding areas of Oklahoma. Any information concerning the ancestry of my grandmother Mary Viola (Hurst?) Query: My maternal Great-grandmother was of the Cherokees that were formed in Upper Arkansas around Pocahontis Arkansas in the 1800's. Her family was on the Trail of tears and settled in Arkansas. She was born in Black Rock Arkansas in the late 1800's. I was wondering if anyone has any information on her and her parents and siblings. Her name was Mary Myrtle Jones(Maiden name). I know she was born in Black Rock, Arkansas in the late 1800's and was married once then married my great-grandfather Pennington, there she had my grandmother, great-aunt and great-uncle. She moved here to Pine Bluff, Arkansas with him and that is where my grandmother and her siblings were born. Mary died here in Pine Bluff, Arkansas in the early 1930's when my grandmother was about 10. I don't know where she was buried. I don't have her death or birth certificates because back then they didn't have them or no longer are around. I need to know this information to finish my Family Tree and try to get on the Roll. If anyone has information please send me an e-mail at the address above. Brazencat@wsbcglobal.net.

My fathers great grandfather was a wagon master heading out west he spent the night on a Indian Reservation in Oklahoma and met one of the Indian chiefs twin daughters (she was a Barnett or Bennett???) who he liked, he told her he would come back for her on his return trip, so on his way back he took her she was 13 years old. He took her to Kentucky or Southern Ohio where they bought land. When she died she may have been buried near Yellow Creek. I would like to find out more information about her family.

Query: I need help on these names. I can't find anyone researching my family. Maybe I went wrong somewheres. Please help if you have any info. Thomas Hicks (born 1764)married: Mary Gwaltney CHILDREN: Elias Hicks (born 1787). Elias Hicks married: marriage 1: Lucretia Lassiter CHILDREN: and marriage 2: Margaret P. Outland (born 1815) CHILDREN: Andrew Jackson Hicks. I have a copy of an old news paper clipping that says: CIVIL WAR GUN- A Denton Navy 6-cap .44 gun used in the civil war by his great-grandfather is now the proud possession of Woodrow Hicks of Murry, Ky. The gun was used by Andrew Jackson Hicks while he was a member of Duckworth's Cavalry. Still in working order, the pistol was used for target practice recently when Hicks, above left, was visited by his cousin, Gerald McFerren of Marthaville. At right is McFerren's son, Huey holding an old sabre, also owned by Hicks, orgininally came from North Carolina and married and Indian squaw who is a cousin of Powhatan. He and his two brothers settled in Kentucky and Mississippi. Now I can't find this indian squaw.hmm. Please email me with any info.

Query: TURNER - JONES - LAMBERT - MASSEY. Oral history is that my great grandmother Mariah (Maria) Turner Lambert b c 1840 Virginia, d September 26, 1918 in Fayette County, Tennessee and her brother William Massey b c 1838 Virginia and her mother Alice Turner b c 1820 Virginia, were brought to LaGrange, Tennessee from Virginia by train and walked to the home of the slave owner, William Alfred Turner. Mariah was taught to be a seamstress, others were chained in the basement of the house, Gable Villa, until they were sent to the fields to work. I visited the house in July, 2005. Mariah told her descendents that they were of Cherokee descent and were brought to LaGrange by train. Photographs indicate they are of American Indian descent. If Cherokke, what part of Virginia did they live in about 1838? Where were they likely have been bought? Thank you for any information or suggestions.

Sister Mandy returned to her tribe. I believe that she later married William Young McBride. Want more information about her Cherokee connections-family said that she got an "Indian check". Query: I am trying to find information about my grandfather and his ancestors. I have found information from my father to my great-great-great-great grandfather. Their surname was SHELTON. My grandfather has told us stories that his grandmother or great grandmother was Cherokee. My sister remembers that grandfather said he had gotten a letter to be able to get land in Oklahoma. Is there anyway or anywhere I can go to find information? He had a half-brother that moved to Stephens County, Oklahoma. I do not know if he also received a letter and perhaps took the land. I would appreciate any help. If anyone is researching the SHELTON family I would be glad to check and see if our families connect.

Query: I am trying to find a Nancy Shepherd born abt. 1847-49 I think I might have found her in VA 1870 as a servant for the Hurst family she was listed as M. She had a child named William H. Shepherd she was never married that I know of. I'm not sure it's the right one however a Hurst is listed as William's father. I've been told her family came from North Carolina and she was Cherokee.
