Cathy Phillips Query: Looking for info on the Newton Co., Arkansas MEEK(s). Lewis MEEK(s) married Tolitha (Tilitha) Ann JONES in abt. 1860. They were in the 1870 Newton Co., Ark. census. Lewis is said to have died by 1880 census where Tolitha and children are listed in the Newton Co. Ark. Census. What I am needing is info from the book by: David Keith Hampton. Called: Cherokee Old Settlers: The 1896 Old Settler Payroll and the 1851 Old Settler Payroll. According to bits I have, Tolitha Jones is with her Jones family in the 1851 Old Settlers Payroll. Then Tolitha and her children are in the 1896 Old settlers payroll. The children were, Elizabeth, John, Eliza, Mary, William and Lutisha (Lou). Also Eliza was called Pine Tree in the 1896 book. What I am trying to determine if the daughter, Mary Meeks, was my great grandmother. Family tells me she had a brother named John. Mary was born in Ark. about 1876ish. I think she died in 1896, in summer or closer to fall time. Think they were living in Brookens, Haskell Co., Ok, when she died. I have been searching a long time to find her parents. I am hoping the info in the 1896 book will give me some real good clues.

Jess Shirley Query: I am seeking information answers to questions about MARTHA JANE BLAIR, born 1825 in Alabama, died 1859 in Smith Oounty Texas. She is my Great Grandmother, via her 7th child, LOUISA EMMALINE MANGUM. I know only these things for sure about MARTHA JANE BLAIR: She was the second wife of DECATUR SAMUEL MANGUM(half Choctaw). They married abt 1842 in Mississippi, had four children (daughters), then mysteriously migrated to Smith County Texas abt 1851. Martha Jane died at the age of 34 shortly after the birth of her 8th child, ROSINA M. THE MOUNT TABOR INDIAN COMMUNITY of Texas shows that MARTHA JANE was buried in the Asbury Cemetery in Smith County, but an inventory of the gravesites in that cemetery (taken in 1964) does not show a grave for her. She, her husband and all 8 of their children are listed on the roll of Mount Tabor as having family ties to that community. My questions (other than WHERE is she actually buried) are: Was she Cherokee or Choctaw? And, given the fact that her migration to Texas and her destination coincides exactly with that of the re-entry of ARCHIBALD THOMPSON onto the Texas scene with his family. Was she in some way connected to some member of the Thompson clan? Any light that can be shed by anybody on these questions would be greatly appreciated by all we descendants of MARTHA JANE BLAIR.
