Query: I am interested to find out if any of my father's birth family is still alive. He always told us that his mother(at least her) was Cherokee and that thier last name was DAVIS and that they came out of the Oklahoma Cherokees. His mother died after he was born and his father gave him up for adoption to a white family in Dallas, Tx. by the name of GOODMAN. My father is deceased now as are his adoptive parents and I am left with no leads at the moment. I am not interested in government assistance or anything like that, but I have always been very proud of my heritage and would like to know more so that I can pass the knowledge on to my son, now that I am married. I would appreciate any assistance. By the way, I also was told that my father had a biological uncle in Texas and that his father moved thier family to California after he was adopted. He apparently had siblings. Thank you!

Query: Hi, I am trying to find the family of my ggrandmother Dora Bell Logan. I recently found my great aunt who was married to Dora's youngest son who died ten years ago. Based on what I have been told by her and other family members this is the following story. Dora Bell Logan was born Cherokee indian in the Indian territory around 1890 or 1891. I do not know the first name of her parents I just know there last name was Logan. I am told that her mother died of malnutrition and her father vanished. She was left an orphan at the age of six or seven. I am told that somehow she was taken in by a white family. I am not totaly sure who that family is but I suspect that there name was Killebrew. This family, headed by one Julius Pinkney Killebrew, lived lived in I.T. in 1894 at a place called Moody Springs for five years then moved to Tahlequah to latter settle in Miami Oklahoma. The reason I suspect the Killebrew family may have been the family that took her in is that my father, when he was young used to visit family in Tahlequah and a man who was part of the family was named Idus Killebrew. He was a son of Julius. I am told the connection could be that Idus married someone related to the Davis side of my family. I am not sure. Anyway at some point my ggrandmother Dora moved to Denison Texas and married my great grandfather Samue C. Davis. My information shows they married some time around 1906. There first son was John William Davis who was my grandfather. I know that Dora had three biological brothers. One was named John. Two of the brothers landed in west Texas and started two big ranches, Dora and her brothers must have been seperated at some point when young. They found Dora years latter and my aunt remebers when they stop by in Denison. That is where I am at this time in the search for her family. I do not know what happend to her brothers. I am told by my great aunt that one of the brothers had killed someone and spent time in Huntsville prison in Texas. I am told the brothers where indian as well. I am not sure if Dora was full or part indian. If you have any information that could help me please email me back.

Query: Rachel Reasoner b. abt. 1821 in Ohio married in Henry Co. Indiana to an unknown Davis man (it could be the 1835 wedding of James Davis to Mary Reasoner on Dec. 17, 1835) from this marriage a daughter Lucinda Davis b. abt. 1836 was born. Lucinda my gggrandmother is said to be part Cherokee Indian so it must come from the Davis side. Rachel and this Mr. Davis did not remain together - someone told me they divorced probably aroun 1838-9. Rachel and family moved on to Afton, Union co. Iowa where Lucinda Davis married Jehu Lipscomb in 1856 then went back east to Preston Co. West Virgina where Jehu was from. An old picture of Lucinda has her Indian name as Arsonal (could be phonetic) Does anyone know about this family? Anyone know of any Cherokee Davis's in Indiana in the 1830's? Thanks.

Query: I have a problem. I'm trying to retrace my Cherokee heritage, but when I get to my great grandparents it gets confusing. It seems my grandfather (H. Bridges) married a woman named Jessie who was Cherokee. However, she died after my grandmother was born and he married ANOTHER woman named Jessie. They lived in Headley Texas, but because of the two Jessie's (and not knowing their maiden names) it's proving almost impossible to trace. I know there is a strong Native American line there, because my grandmother and her sister used to get payments from the government...Any ideas?

Query: Some members of my family claim that my great grandmother was half Cherokee. Others say she was less than half native. Her picture makes me wonder if she was half or even more Indian. We're from the apalachian mountains or Harlan, Kentucky. I'm also told that my grandfather had some Indian blood. I don't know my mother. So, I wouldn't know about her side of the family. How do I go about researching my great grand mother's history as an Indian or not? Her married name was Broch. Thanks.
