August 24, 1940 in Tulsa, OK. MARTHA has quite a history, she was married 7 times and had 16 children between the seven husbands. WILLIAM was also born in Bolivar, TN and died in 1880 in OK. Together they had only one child MARY ELIZABETH MITCHELL b. 1880 d. 1932 she was married to a JAMES GREEN TADLOCK. The story goes that MARTHA and WILLIAM both came across the trail of tears as children. Being that MARY ELIZABETH was extremely important to the tribe when she was born they came and stole her killing WILLIAM in the process. When she was 12 JAMES GREEN TADLOCK did some sort of favor and as a reward to him they gave MARY ELIZABETH to him as a gift. When she was old enough he married her. They had 4 children together MAUDE, who died at birth, ANNA MAUDE 1903-1980, MARY ELIZABETH 1907-1939 and my grandmother WILLIE ALMA BEATRICE 1914-1990. Luther Thompson
Query: Thomas Louis Thompson (he later used Luther as the middle name), born about August 16, 1859 in either Louisiana or Texas (birthdate possibilities differ from August 12, 1858 through January 1865), married Mary Josephine (Josey) Luckey October 8, 1884. Mr. Thompson died in Tyler County, Texas, in 1944. Mr. Thompson’s parents and grandparents are unknown to me at this time, but an older family member thinks that his father may have been Samuel Thompson, and his mother may have been Mary M. Dickey Thompson. I have no further information on these people other than that two people of those names were married in Tyler County, Texas on December 29, 1853. Mr. T.L. Thompson told the older children (all now deceased) that he was of Cherokee Indian and Scots-Irish descent. Mary Josephine Luckey, born March 22, 1867 in Texas, was the daughter of Charles L. Luckey, born October 1, 1832 or 1833, in Georgia, and his mother and father were apparently both born in Georgia. Mr. Luckey died January 17, 1891, at Colmesneil, Texas in a sawmill accident, and is buried in Colmesneil Cemetery, Tyler County, Texas. Josey died Nov. 7, 1930, in Tarkington Prairie, Texas, and is buried in Oak Shade Cemetery, Liberty County, Texas. Josey’s mother was Mary Ellen Jones Luckey, born about 1843, supposedly in Mississippi. Mary’s father was supposedly born in North Carolina, and her mother in Tennessee. This information was obtained from the 1880 U.S. Census, Precinct 4, Tyler County, Texas. M.E.J. Luckey was apparently full blood Cherokee Indian, according to family tradition, and photos indicate Indian appearance. T.L. and Josey are my Grandfather and Grandmother. I would appreciate any help that may be available.

Query: I am trying to find information on my fathers family. My dad told me he was 1/2 cherokee and that that made me 1/4. His father was fullblood. My dad used his deceased brothers name, Robert Lee, and his stepfathers last name ,Malone, to get into the military to become a scout/sharp shooter for the cavalry somewhere between 1910 and 1920. He would have been 13 at the time. He was born in 1897 in Guthrie Kentucky. He told me his real was named Arthur Cleveland Webb, and that he was named after a president like his brothers , George Washington Webb, and Robert E. Lee Webb. All his family supposedly came from Kentucky, Tenn, N. Carolina, and Oklahoma territories. I remember trying to cross the border one time when I was about 13, we were detained for hours because my father refused to say he was a united states citizen...he kept saying he was a Real American and an Irish American. he was very proud of his heritage from his mother and father. His dad died when he was three in St. Louis, Mo. When Robert Webb, probably 1900, died dad's mother gave all the boys to an orphanage. Dad ran away at thirteen. She then remarried to John Garfield Malone and went to live in Ill. My dad was a career soldier. He said the Army was the only place that would accept him as a half breed. One summer we went to live on the Lumbee Indian Reservation in the late 50's when I was a little girl. It was one of the happiest and best times of my life. I hope one day to find some information that will confirm my fathers assertions, but til then my heart and spirit are with my people always. If you have any information please let me know. Thank you! Margot

Query: I was four years old the night my Great Grandmother passed away in the 1960's and I still remember her face. Her maiden name was Donnie Mann and she was born in Kentucky in the 1880's (which is our best estimate). There has never been any denying that my Great Grandmother was native American and it has taken some digging to get as far as her birth place is Kentucky and that she was believed to be Cherokee. Apart from that I have nothing else but a photograph. Donnie Mann was married to Walter Nunn and they moved to Oklahoma and then to California where she died. I am seeking any information that can be found on her. Thankyou.

Jennifer
Query: This has been keeping me up nights lately. I have known in my heart since a little girl that there was something different about me. Everything from the way I look at things, think about things, how I react to things etc... When I started asking questions about ancestry no one really knows anything. No records, when you go a couple of generations back. My grandma use to ask questions no one could answer, she knew the features in her family were different, and she believed it to be Indian because where we are from is a huge Cherokee territory (Alabama). But everyone was very vague and just said "Black Dutch" "alot on both sides" they told her. so in doing research i found that this was a term used by Native Americans who could pass for white and who were intemarried with whites to escape persecution. In speaking with a lady who has a organization for Cherokee people, she explained that it would be hard for me the trace back, because Native Americans did not keep records and unless they were on the rolls it was going to be very difficult, because the ones who stayed behind had to pass themselves off as white and could not put down there true culture for obvious reasons. So now i am kinda up against a brick wall, and need some suggestions, help, anything... this is just something that has bothered me for as long as i can remember. I need closure and to actually feel like I belong somewhere, to celebrate my heritage fully. I know that may sound funny, but if someone knew there was someting missing culturally, then found out they were Spanish, they would begin to learn the language, understand the culture, teach their children their heritage, etc. that's all I want to do!
