Query: Can anyone help me? I am trying to trace my father Claude Collins. All I know about him is that he was working racehorses on the backstretch of the Race Track in San Francisco the spring summer of 1949. He was supposed to have been off the reservation in "Bell"Oklahoma....according to what my birth mother was willing to tell me in 1968. I only met her once but she wa now willing to tell me much other then my father was Cherokee and that I came by my horsemanship thru him. Her name was Lucele Swenson. She was not married to my father that I know of. She was approxamately 21 in 1949. And I was put up for private adoption to a couple her brother Clay knew. If anyone knows of a Cherokee man by the Claude Collins or close variation, that was/is a skilled horseman between 71 and 80 years of age I assume that Collins was approximately the same age as my birth mother was at the time. My best guess would be he was born between 1925 and 1931. If anyone has any information what so ever....please contact me as soon as possible. I would truely like to find my roots if at all possible. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Stacey Egnor
Query: I'm looking for any information on my great great grandmother and her family. I was told that she was born in Benton Co, Mo. There's not record of her or her little brother there. My grandmother has mentioned several times that Estella was born on an Indian Reserve in OK on May 9, 1887. Estella told my grandma of coming to the 'big city' in a covered wagon because her mother (who was full blooded native american (we believe Cherokee) was ill and did not want to die away from her reservation. The person that I'm looking for is Estella Mitchell, born May 9,1887. She also had a brother named Evert we believe was younger than her. I have no idea her parents names and the mitchell is just a guess as we have nothing to confirm it. If you could help me please email Egnors@yahoo.com my name is Stacey. Thanks for your help!

Vanessa Behrens (Pope)
Query: Since I was a little girl I have belived myself to be a Cherokee, when in the presense of other Native Americans they sense this in me also even now. My great grandfather was a chief and belonged to the Texas nation. My father can remember him being taken back on the train in all of his head dress to his reservation in the 30's to be buried, yet because my grandmother's sister would not say or agree to being a Native American we somehow now do not exsist. I cannot find any information on my grandfather which I find strange since they found them to have them sign up for the rolls during the depression. My grandfather's name was Cheri and his reservation was in Texas that is all the information I have for him. My grandmother's name was Mable and she married a Pope they lived in Riverside Ca. She was born in the French Quarter of Canada and was 1/2 French Canadian, the small village she was born in burned to the ground when she was a child so my search always stops with her. I would love to find any information I could on my great grandfather and my grandmother.

Query: Edward Conklin and James Edward Conklin. I am researching Edward Conklin who died,( in NY ??) between 1874.- 1879. We cannot find any records for him. No birth/date or place, No death/ burial/ date or place and No siblings or parents names. All we know is: Edward Conklin married Mary Baulsir abt 1870/1871. Together they had 2 daughters.: Prudence Elizabeth b. abt 1872 in Brooklyn, NY (my line) and Ema (Emaline)(Emily) or(Erma) b. abt 1874. in Brooklyn NY. I am seriously considering that our Edward Conklin may be a sibling of James Edward Conklin, Especially because of another coincidence: Although we weren't sure if it comes from the Conklin line or Baulsir line, we have No Doubt that there is Indian blood on this side of our family. It is rumored to be Black foot Indian, but the memories are not so good anymore. Candice- I saw your query I could not e-mail you, so let me know if this sounds plausible to you? Please contact me.

Query: I am searching for the burial site and information of my earliest Cherokee ancestors CHEROKEE GEORGE and CHOW-E-YOU-CAH. I believe they were originally from Paint Town, N. Carolina area. Also searching for the burial site of and information on their daughter SUSANNAH (no surname found - b early 1830's ?) married JOHN M. BIBLE who appears later in Texas with a cavalry unit with their daughter SUSAN BIBLE (b. abt 1850) but he had remarried and no mention of SUSANNAH. I believe SUSAN and her husband JAMES JACKSON are buried in the private family cemetery with now unreadable sandstone markers. The cemetery was started on the land allotment of SARAH JACKSON, James and Susan's daughter in Indian Territory, Oklahoma, Cooweescoowee District. Several generations have been buried there as early as the 1890's and the cemetery is still in use today. Query: Hi, I have two questions. One is that my Grandmother was reportedly half Cherokee and the family did not have ties with any tribal affiliations. She lived in Florida. I am looking to learn more about my ancestors and traditions. Is there any groups near Minnesota or info you can direct me towards? Second question is. I am having a pair of winter mitts made from a beaver pelt and I would like to find a piece of cloth 1-2 inches wide about 40+ inches long that might have a Cherokee significance to attach as a border decoration on the mitts. If you could suggest an artisan that might be of help it would be greatly appreciated. Please forward my contact info to whoever you fell could help.

John Robertson
Query: I am trying to find ANYTHING on a Susannah Johnson. What I have is she married a Joseph Rainey Robertson (Robinson?) 26 November, 1795, in Madison Co. KY. From the marriage date I "Guestimate" her age (if 20 at marriage) at about 1775 or later. I find the Scots often married among the native population, and I find the Johnson name among the Cherokee, a popular name for girls was Mahala, and they named a daughter Mahala. The family consisted of 8 known children, and obviously moved from Madison CO. to Bourbon County KY, as several of the children were born there. As the marriage was in 1795, and they were together, they obviously did not get involved in the "Removals". I have found a Susannah Robertson living in Brown Co. (census) Indiana after Josephs death in Franklin Co. KY in 1833. I haven't been able to find any further on her, and hope to get to Nashville IN to do a record search on Susannah. Anything will be of help, and I will gladly share what we have on Joseph, Susannah and the children.

Query: I am trying to find out my ggrandmothers' maiden name. Her given name is Caroline and she was born in 1838. She married a man from Al. named Brooks and had a son in 1865 in Hardeman, Tn. James Y. Brooks and a dau in 1867 name Minerva A. Brooks. I found them in the 1880 census in Hardin, Tn. and she had married a man named William Sherbet, she was widowed and head of household, and had a yr. old son named William Sherbet....I can not find out what happened to Brooks that she was married to, but the census listed him as coming from Al, and had her race listed as white. From all I have read that was not uncommon as the Indians were treated so poorly that they would change thier race on documents, because of that reason.I found where she married again for the third time to a James Brawley in Mcnairy, Tn. in 1881. I have a picture passed down to me from my mother, and my mother had told me she was a full blooded Cherokee, and she certainly looks like she is. James Brooks by her first marriage is my grandfather. He moved to Ar. with his family...but have not been able to find out what happened to Caroline, or been able to find out her maiden name. Martha Gibson
Query: I am looking for any information that might help me to link my Smalling surname to Cherokee. Here is what I presently know. My father has claimed that my family does have Cherokee blood, but that he could never substantiate the fact within our bloodlines. Also, I think that the Smallings who have Cherokee ancestry may descend from a relationship of a Smalling plantation owner and a slave in the Piney Flats, Tn area, around the years 1775-1800. The children of the slave(murdered over the romance with white owner)allegedly moved into the wilderness of mountains(away from Piney Flats) and took Cherokee mates, thus creating a group of Smallings that were of three races, African, Caucasian (Danish), and Cherokee. I would like to know if there is anything to this story. Are there Smallings like this? Were there ever? The story is odd, but I think that of all groups, the Cherokee may hold the key to a mystery about my kin, the Smallings. According to the legend, the White Smallings, around 1800, lost all their wealth, due to the love affair of the African woman to the White man, and the results of the affair. Murder of slave woman, result: children of slave woman put curse on Smallings who were only white. They lost all their wealth. I believe the responsible male (lover of the slave, but not the murderer of her) to have been Solomon Smalling, and the female (slave) to have been properly named "Sarah". I'd like to find any Cherokee Smallings who might be able to solve this puzzle. The results, if the story is true, are that the Smalling family has a Caucasian/African genetic group, and a Caucasian/African/Chrerokee group due to the controversial romance of this colonial couple. This story may even be a legend of Tennessee, and NC Cherokee, somewhere, and I wonder if anyone else knows about these Smallings. The slave also may be called the Smalling heir, and she and the plantation owner may be buried beside one another or even together. Looking for a gravesite as well. Contact me if you have any information.

Query: Searching for information on my gr gr grandfather S.H Wolf. The family maintains a Native descent and that the S.H Stood for Simeon Henry Wolf. A 1880 Oregon County Missouri census lists S.H Wolf, his wife Amanda and their 1st child James Edgar Wolf. A 1900 census same county Lists, James Edgar, Mary E.,Oscar L., and my gr grandfather John Arthur Wolf. S.H Wolf remarried after Amanda's death to Francis H. Armstrong. a 1900 census list's Francis remarried to D.M Dethrow with step children Wesley and Dela Wolf. I seem to find a different place of birth for S.H Wolf on every census or marriage record. On a 1930 Creek County Okla. census one of my grandfathers brothers was listed with his wife. Under his fathers place of birth Missouri was marked out and Mixed- Blood was written over it. Under his mothers place of birth, Missouri was also marked out and Cherokee written over it. His name was Raymond Wolfe. Releatives still live in Okla. that knew both John Arthur and Raymond state John added the E to his last name as he was told it sounded to Indian and to Wild. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Query: I am searching for info on my husband's great-grandmother, Nancy Anna Hunter, who was born May 16, 1854, we think in Georgia. She married Henry David Mobley and they later moved to Texas, where she died in 1934. We have no info on her parents other than the unproven info that her mother's maiden name was Green. I thought I'd ask if anyone's stumbled over any info our our Nancy Anna Hunter -- the family lore is that she and her family were "Black Dutch", which was another name used for Cherokee or other Indian heritage back then. We hope to confirm this only for the family history we're working on, not to try to prove tribal links.

Query: I am looking for any information on my Gr-Gr-Gr-Grandfather, Jefferson RIDGE, a Cherokee from Arkansas. He was born about 1820 or earlier. According to family records, my Great-Great-Grandmother, Frances Jane Ridge Densmore (born in Sept.1842 in Missouri or Arkansas) and some of her siblings were kidnapped and sold into slavery. Frances Ridge found her parents after slavery ended in 1865. In my research, I have located a few names of other children of Jefferson Ridge: Margaret Davis, Ellis Sternam Densmore and Edmond Caldwell in Travis County, Texas, as well as, Frank Hannah in Greene County, Missouri. On the 1925 Oklahoma death certificate for Frances Densmore, her father is listed as Jefferson Ridge, a farmer in Arkansas and her mother, Corine King. Family members have described Corine King as a Black woman. I believe Corine King could have been an African. I would greatly appreciate any help in finding more information on my Cherokee ancestor, Jefferson RIDGE and his family.

Query: I am looking for any information on my Grandmother. Her name was Ocie Edith Elizabeth Evelyn White. She was born Oct. 4, 1903, I believe in Tennessee, possibly Monroe County and died Aug. 25, 1978 in Murphy NC. She married Homer Frady. Her father was Monroe White and mother was Sarah Ann Elizabeth Roper. Monroe's father was Johnathon (Jonathon?) Monroe White who married Sarah Ann Givens. I can't seem to find anything about Johnathon. I have nothing on his family. If anyone can help, I would be so grateful. I believe either Jonathon or Sarah Ann Givens is the Cherokee connection in this family. Thank you. Lavon Jawor
