Dan Klein
Query: I am trying to determine any information on James Rogers (Rodgers) and his wife Melinda Boothe (Booth). The were married and in Arkansas around the time of the Trail of Tears. James listed on the 1860 census he was from Tennessee and Malinda stated she was from Illinois. My search has gone cold in both of those states so I am hoping they might be Cherokee and someone from this message board can fill in the blanks. It might be a stretch but I cannot think of why they would have moved to the part of Arkansas where the Cherokee's were relocated at the year they were relocated, if they were not Cherokee. I hope someone out there can help.

John Robertson
Query: I am listing my genealogyto show my relationship to Susannah Johnson, b. 1760-1780. Probably 1770 +/- 3 years. Genealogy - ROBERTSON — My genealogy traces back to Joseph Rainey Robertson, "Born in Scotland, 1760-1780" d. 1833 Near Frankfort, KY (This is all we have on him) He is my gggg grandfather - married to: Susannah Johnson, b. 1760-1780, m. 11-24-1795 in Madison CO., KY. They had 8 known children: 1. Elizabeth, b. 1790-1810, 2. *JOHNSON ROBERTSON, b. 1790-1810 in Madison or Bourbon Co. KY, d. 02-19-1864 in Liberty, Clay Co. MO, m. **Polly A. Langston d. 03-16-1829 in Bourbon Co. KY. Male descendants down to me: gggf., Johnson, ggf., Allan, gf., Harry, f., Raymond C. Robertson, myself, John William Robertson. 3. ***Mahala, b. 01-02-1816 m. Henry Livingston in Bourbon Co. KY. 4. Mark, b. 1790-1810. 5. Mary Ann, b. 1820 in KY, m. James R. Johnson 1839 in Versailles, Riply Co. IN. 6. Solomon Rainey, b. 1790-1810 m. Eliza Wilson 04-01-1837 in Paris, Bourbon Co. KY. 7. James R., b. 06-08 1798 in Madison Co. KY d. 01-07-1883 in Shelbyville, Shelby Co. KY. 8. William b. 1803, (Madison Co. KY ??).

* Johnson Robertson is the one my line descends from.
** Polly’s parents are possibly: (We have no confirmation on these) Father; Abraham Langston b. 1779 in Scotland? Mother, Isabella Clark b. 1778, Paris, Bourbon Co. KY? I think Polly A. had a sister named Mary Ann I am beginning to believe that Joseph may have returned to Scotland periodically, and it is possible that Susannah Johnson may also have come from Scotland. Here is why I am posting here*** I am also beginning to wonder if Susannah might be of Cherokee Indian descent, as the Johnson name is found among the Cherokee, and Mahala was a popular name for girls among the Cherokee, AND, Joseph and Susannah named one of their daughters Mahala! I find that the Scots often married among the Native American lines. I have not been able to find anything on Susannah, either. Any help or information will be greatly appreciated, and I share what I have on the family.

Query: I am trying to prove a Native branch in my family tree. The sad thing is that my great grandfather wouldn't admit that his grandmother was indeed Native American. Here is what I am looking for. In the mid 1950's he received a letter from some government agency stating that if he would claim his grandmother, that he would be entitled to land based on her heritage. What I need to find out is which agencies were sending letters such as that during that time frame. Much of this information is coming from my mother who lived with them at the time. She remembers a letter that he received and sadly, refused to acknowledge. I keep thinking that it has to be a part of the Indian Claims Commission but I am not sure. I apologize for the lack of information and the vagueness of my query but this is all the information that I have at this time other than a picture of her from the mid to late 1800's in a Cherokee Tear Dress.
