Query: Susan or Susannah Blackwell was born abt 1824 in SC. Around 1839, she married William A. Broadway, a mule skinner for the Army. He was about 22 years. Supposedly, Susan was half Native-American, and I suspect she would have been Cherokee. They eventually moved to AL, and then MS, where he got a land grant. He served in the Civil War and Susan collected a pension in her later years. How can I find her parents? I've been looking for 13+ years. She named her children: Martha Jane, William, Margaret Joan, James M., Mary A. E., Susannah, Sudie Charlotte, Amanda, John Nicholson, and Alabama Palestine. She outlived most of her children. If they followed the naming pattern, her Mother would have been Martha Jane and her Father James M.

June Marlowe Winchester Teninty
Query: Would it be possible for anyone to help me in the search for the records of my father, Lester Isham Marlow and his father, who my Dad was lead to believe was named Samuel Marlow. The spelling of the last name was later changed to Marlowe (with an "e") to hide him as he was taken away by his mothers' family. My father was told that he was born in 1901 or 1902, in Bear Creek, Cedar County, Missouri. His father was a Cherokee Indian on the Marlow reservation and his mother (Nanny Lee Isham) was white. She had a sister Alva, and 3 brothers named Carroll, Joe and Ed Isham. My dad’s uncle and his wife Betty felt it best that he knew nothing of his dad, so they moved to Cody Wyoming and the brothers became ranch hands on the Buffalo Bill Cody Ranch. Betty became the cook for the ranch. Daddy was raised on the ranch till he was a young man. I want to thank anyone that can help me on this. I would also like to know if my dad and grandfather are registered with the Cherokee tribe. I’m very proud of my heritage and hopefully this will make a dream come true. My dad died before he was ever able to find out anything of his father.

Query: My grandmother was carried on the 1910 Love co., Ok., federal census as 1/8th Cherokee and being born in Texas. Her name was Nora Bell Winningham and was born in the mid 1890'in Texas. She married my grandfather, Oscar Leroy Davis, in Cooke co., Texas in 1904. I think her father was Robert (perhaps Richard) Winningham who, according to the 1900 Cooke co., Texas census was born about 1850 in Arkansas. The 1900 federal census showed that he was married to a Ollie Burton. He was probably married previously judging from the ages of the children shown in the census. Their names were Tooge Winningham, George Winningham and Cora Bell Winningham. I think there were others. Nora Bell may have lived in McLennan county, Texas. Nora Bell died in Healdton, Ok. about 1917-18. Would appreciate hearing from anyone on this matter. Query: I am researching my families genealogies and have been told we have Seminole ancestry. In my research I have discovered that the only places this could be, so far, is with one of my original ancesters immigrating into South Carolina then marrying several years later however we do not have her full name. What is fastinating is that some places show her name as Edna, some others as Edney, and a couple of others as Ednay/Ednoy. While these last three are definitely not of English extraction I was wondering if there is a name in any of the Cree languages approximating this pronunciation. There is also on my grandmothers side her grandfathers with having the name of Oceola Weeks. While the Weeks name is possible considered common the name Oceola definitely is of Semanole/Cree deravation. We have little information on her as well other that she was from Alabama in the mid/late 1800's. Can anyone help with any of these.

Query: I am in the process of tracing my heritage. My maternal grandmother has often said that her grandmother (my great-great grandmother) was part Cherokee (as does her siblings). I would like to know how I can find out more about that and how I can trace the validity of the claim of our Native-American heritage. I have so many unanswered questions.
