(My Fathers mother, my grandmother) Helens 2 obits are: April 22, 1956. Pioneer Bristow Woman's Funeral Will Be Tuesday Services for Mrs. Helen Thompson, Bristow pioneer and mother of Justen E. Thompson, 2729 E. Fourth Pl., will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Dunnaway Funeral Home, Bristow. Mrs. Thompson, 78, died Sunday at the home of a daughter, Mrs. C. C. Armstrong, Houston. She recently suffered as stroke while visiting at the Armstrong home. She was a native of Tennessee and was the widow of John Edward Thompson, Bristow area farmer, who died in 1938. Mrs. Thompson was a member of the Nazarene Church. Also surviving are three other sons, Haskell and E. L., Sand Springs, and I. B., Indio, Calif.; another daughter, Mrs. Marvin Dammann, Absecon, N. J.; 17 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Burial will be in the Bristow Cemetery. 2ND: 22-April-1956 Mrs. Helen Thompson, a long time Bristow resident, died Sunday morning in Houston, Tex., while visiting in the home of a daughter, Mrs. C. C. Armstrong. She had recently suffered a stroke. Services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Dunaway Funeral home with the Reverend Clifford Funk officiating. Burial was in Oaklawn cemetery with Dunaway Funeral home in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Thompson, who came to Oklahoma before statehood, was a native of Tennessee. I know that on both sides of my family about 2 genrations back there are full blooded indians in both the blackfoot and the cherokee tribes. These people were all originally from the Va and WVa. area. My cousin and I have been trying to solve this puzzle along with my aunt from my grandfathers second family. My youngest son has some Indian features. I don't know any roll numbers my father left the family farm at 13 with his brother and sister, now deceased, and he did not know his famly history. She had a son named Alfred Lee Moore who was married to Sarah Ann Collins. Alfred Lee Moore was born 1865, died Nov. 4,1921 in Austinville, Va. Sarah Ann Collins was born 1865, died Aug. 1957 in Coeburn, Va. and buried in Greenwood Cemetary. Melinda Moore later married a man named Collins, and he died fairly young in the coal mines. I was searching for Juriah Day (reported to be a full blooded Cherokee woman) b. 1799? in Wilkes Co., N.C. who married David Collins 11 Jan, 1822 in Barborville, Knox Co., KY. They had a daughter named Ruhaney Collins, b.10/20/1822 in Marion Co., IN near or in Indianapolis, IN. The list I had found had both, listed more than once, in columnar form. Both had the letter "I" in front of their names. Juriah and Ruhaney are the furthest back ancestors of my wife that we have found. I had made a diskette of the list, but have lost it, and a crash removed all other reference to the "roll". Can anyone help me. I would love to be able to find the parents of Juriah, for my wife. They had a daughter named Mary Emily Rogers, Born Aug. 1858 in Terrytown, Bradford County, PA. and died May 7, 1929 and is buried at Methodist Church Cemetery in New Era, Bradford County, PA. I have visited the graves and can verify this. This is where I met the man who told me about the American Indian Ancestry. His family is buried there also and he has lived in New Era all his life. The church records are lost. Mary Emily Rogers married James M. Covey, born 26 May, 1854 at New Era, PA. and is also buried in same cemetery. They had a Son named James Adolphus Covey, born 2 Oct 1888, in New Era, Bradford County. PA. and died 26 Oct, 1957 at Sayre, PA. My Grandfather. Mary Emily Rogers raised Herbs as did her Mother, Zilpha Rogers and provided all of the family with medicine. In New Era the Covey Farmand Covey Road still exist. I cannot find where Ulysees Rogers or his wife Zilpha Rogers are buried as have searched all cemeteries in this area. Also, cn not find a maiden name for Zilpha. My ancestry stops dead there. I am not a genealogist and am 72 years old and at this point can not travel so nowo reaching out on internet. Query: Both a question, and a comment...I have read through nearly every posting here...has anyone found some solid documentation? It is TOUGH. We should definitely remember this, and save "hard copy" for our children! I find it particularly difficult with the research into my Cherokee American ancestery. I do know why however...they were "spread" by force all over creation! No records along the "Trail of Tears", eh? Especially when your female relative gave birth, and died along the "trail".
