Shannon Yoshida
Query: Please help me. I am trying to find my relatives. My name is Shannon Yoshida. My father was adopted with the biological name of William Wright. His parents came from the reservation in Oklahoma to Hayward California. His mother's name was Roberta Wright. His father's name was Forest B Wright. Shortly after leaving the reservation. They came to California and got into trouble with the law. They were charged with Arned Ribery aas well as murder. My grandmother went to Santa Rita and my grandfather went to San Quinton. My father was adopted through an illegal adoption. I do however have his adoption certificate. When he was 14, is sister Susan Wright came to meet him. He never kept in contact as he had felt betrayed for being adopted to a couple of alcaholics with the last name Schouweiler. He was contacted as I wrote by his sister who was still living in Hayward CA with her aunt Ann Collins. Her address was 611 Hampton Rd. I have been passed the legacy to find my family. It is so hard but I have faith it can be done. I just don't know where to start or what to do. The last name Wright is so common. The hospital he was born in was burned down. H was adopted in Nevada as no one would adopt a child to the Schouweilers due to their natorious behaviors. His father was the one who signed him off to the Schouweilers. His mother`s signature is nowhere to be found. They don't have either one of their social security numbers on any documentation. I only hope ther is some recordings of any of their names somwhere out there. I am heart broken. There is an empty part of me that doesn't know my heritage. And it is very hard as I am red haired and fair skined. I am not the typical Native American. Please help me to learn something of my passed. Any little help would greatly be appriciated.

Melissa
Query: It is said that my children's great great grandmother was full blooded Cherokee. I do not understand how this works (as far as lineage following the matriarchal line). This woman was my husband's great grandmother on his mother's side. This Cherokee woman was my mother-in-law's paternal grandmother. So, the lineage would go from this woman to her son to his daughter to her son to my daughters! I do not know the name of this Cherokee woman- I do know that her son's name was George Henry Jackson who lived in White Horse, Virginia. I do not know of any of this to be written information- it's been verbally passed down through the years. Does the lineage have to follow an entire female line for my children to be considered Cherokee? What blood line does one have to have to be considered Cherokee?

Query: Chief Nimrod Jarrett Smith, also seen as Jarrett Nimrod Smith, who was elected chief after Lloyd Welch in 1880. This is taken from a book by Fred B. Bauer which also states that in the fall of 1931, Jarrett Blythe, son of James Blythe, and grandson of Chief Jarrett Nimrod Smith, was elected to succeed Chief Tahquette. Chief Jarrett Nimrod Smith obtained the incorporation of the Eastern Band of Cherokees by the NC Legislature in 1889. Gail A Williams
Query: My sister and I are searching for information on our maternal great grandmother, Susan Field, who married David W. Covington sometime around 1880, possibly in Kentucky. They settled in or near Bolivar, Missouri, where my great grandfather supplied horses to the U.S. Army. My father, Don E. Williams, thought that his grandmother had not learned to read until after she married Mr. Covington, and he thought that may have indicated she was a full-blood. He also thought she may have been Cherokee. My great-uncle, Barnett Eugene Covington refused to discuss the past with my uncle, when asked to do so. If anyone knows how I might farther pursue this quest, I would be greatful for information. I do have a coverlet passed down to my sisters and me from the Field side which has been indentified at the Maxwell Museum of Natural (UNM) as an Anglo-Irish pattern, "Winter-Summer," which was woven on a four-harness loom. The anthropologist who identified it said it was most likely made prior to 1830, when that pattern went out of style. So it is quite possible that my great grandmother was part Scots-Irish, as were most of my ancestors on both my father's and mother's sides.

TN., 4> Isaac E. Allen & Julie Reeves-Allen, Putnam Co. TN., 5> John W. Allen & Mary Ann Watson of Jonesboro, Washington Co. TN and London, Laurel, KY., 6> Isaac Allen & Sarah Sliger-Allen Jonesboro, Washington Co. TN. If you know of Cherokee, or any Native American heritage, in this family blood line please contact me.

Query: I am searching for the ancestry of my grandmother, Nancy Elizabeth Duvall. She was born Nov. 13, 1892 died October, 1984. No one knows her mother's name, although it is believed that her grandmother was a full-blooded Cherokee Indian who may have married a black man. Her mother, subsequently, from what I remember hearing as a child, also married a black man. Nancy Elizabeth's father was Frank Duvall, and Nancy married a black man by the name of Mack? Monteque? Edmondson who was a minister. M. Edmondson and Nancy Elizabeth produced seven children: Florence, George Washington, Lula, Charles, Joseph, and Anna Mae. It is said that Nancy's people were from Pulaski, Tenn., but she and Mack Edmondson lived in KY. Mack died about 1935. Please, if anyone out there has any information on this geneology, please email me.
