White Traders and Agents Among the Cherokee
by Carla Toney
I was looking through the library here in Karlsruhe, Germany the other day and I noticed some names that I couldn’t remember seeing before: names of Indian traders, agents, missionaries, and people who settled with different Indian bands and tribes.
Since these names appear in the colonial records of Britain, France, Spain, Canada and Mexico, they are people who probably intermarried at a very early date.
For some of them there are tribal records. Others seem to simply disappear. So I'll list them now below – and you can see if they are names that you’ve been searching for.
