Articles & FAQs Guess Who's a Cherokee -- Litefoot
This is the fifth article in the series "Guess Who's a Cherokee." Check each month to find a new Cherokee profiled. Some are obvious while some will really surprise you. Hope you enjoy. Litefoot In 1992, Litefoot released his first album, The Money, and the world was introduced to it's first American Indian rap artist. By 1993 he was touring internationally. In 1995 made another major step in his career when he starred in the major motion picture, The Indian in the Cupboard. His performance in this film won him his first Best Actor award from First Americans in the Arts. Litefoot has succeeded in juggling his music career and film career. In 1996 alone he starred in Song of Hiawatha (a role that won him his second Best Actor award from First Americans in the Arts), released his most popular album, Good Day To Die, and co-starred with Kevin Sorbo and Tia Carrere in Kull, The Conqueror (a role that won him his third Best Actor award from First Americans in the Arts). Not one to slow down, Litefoot started 1997 in Thailand filming Mortal Kombat, Annihilation. In 1998, Litefoot's musical career also received long overdue honors at the 1st Annual Native American Music Awards when he was honored with the Rap Artist Of The Year award, an award he would receive again a year later and again in 2000. Litefoot is a very popular rap performer in "Indian Country" as his tours often take him to Indian communities throughout the US and Canada. Litefoot's career is continuing to grow. He has released nine CDs and starred in eight films. Litefoot has worked hard and seems very deserving of his title Best Indian Role Model (voted the title in a poll conducted by the Oklahoma Indian Times Newspaper). Personally, I really look forward to seeing Litefoot in the upcoming film Adaptation directed by Spike Jonze and starring Nicholas Cage and Meryl Streep.
